About Sapodilla’s Caribbean Restaurant and Catering DC

Caribbean cooking with deep roots in Guyana, including curries and jerk chicken marinated in spices, served across appetizers, entrees and drinks. Two locations operate, one in Washington, DC and one in Fort Washington, Maryland, with dine-in, request-ahead ordering, an online waitlist and delivery through DoorDash and Uber Eats. Catering is a major part of the business, with a client list that includes Mastercard, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, the Obama Foundation, Prince George's County Public Schools and GEICO.

Marva and Wilken Kitt and their family emigrated from Guyana to the United States, leaving behind a garment factory business. Samantha turned a 1999 college assignment and her family's legacy recipes into a catering business, which grew into the restaurant established in 2007. The business remains family owned and operated, and a flagship restaurant in the Historic Anacostia District was announced for Spring 2024.
