The firm traces back to Stephen W. Sessums, who after 17 years of practice in Tampa decided in 1976 to focus solely on matrimonial law and left the partnership of Albritton, Sessums & McCall on October 1, 1982 to open Stephen W. Sessums, P.A. Caroline Black Sikorske joined in November 1989 after five years as a Hillsborough County Assistant State Attorney and became a partner in 1994. Alex Caballero joined in 1999 and now serves as managing partner, with Jennifer Ficarrotta joining in 2011, Andrew Reder in 2015, and Samantha Koko in 2020. The stated mission has remained a client-centered firm devoted entirely to marital and family law, built on teamwork, efficiency, respect, and excellence.
