About SLAK Market Farm

SLAK Market Farm is a Muslim, Black-owned family dairy and livestock farm of about 12 acres in Lexington, Kentucky. The farm keeps dairy cows, sheep, goats and chickens. It offers raw milk, pastured eggs and halal meat (lamb, goat, chicken and sometimes beef) through herd-share and livestock agistment agreements, in which members own a share of the animals the farm cares for. Animals graze grass pasture, get hay in winter and receive a small ration of certified organic, soy-free and corn-free feed. The farm also makes raw milk soap, shampoo and conditioner bars. Through its online store it sells cheese classes, backyard chicken training (including a class for ages 3-7), private farm tours and 'Dairy Dream' overnight family farm stays. It is a private working farm, and all visits are by appointment only.

Kenya Abraham and her family started the farm in 2013, learning partly from YouTube videos, after Kenya turned to raw milk because of lactose intolerance. The name SLAK comes from the initials of four of their children: Sabeal, Laila, Aiya and Kathem. In 2021 the farm had 11 cows producing about 7 gallons of raw milk a day, and the oldest daughter, Aiya, led the milking.
