Before natural hair was a movement in the Triangle, it was a leap of faith. Fifteen years ago, when locs and twist-outs were nowhere near the mainstream they are today, Taji bet her career on the belief that Black women in Raleigh and Durham deserved a place built entirely around their real texture — and Taji Natural Hair Styling has been proving her right ever since. Taji herself is a licensed natural hair practitioner with more than two decades behind the chair, but her path in isn't the usual one. She holds a BFA from Parsons School of Design, and that training in symmetry, proportion, and design is exactly what she brings to hair. A head of locs, in her hands, is a piece of composition — balanced, intentional, made to suit the face in front of her. It's the difference between a style that's simply done and one that's genuinely designed. The salon lives up to its name: this is natural hair, start to finish. Taji and her team of trained, licensed natural-hair artists specialize in the full loc journey — starter locs, retwists and maintenance, and the kind of long-term care that keeps locs healthy for years — alongside twists, braids, and protective styling. Taji Natural Hair Styling was founded roughly fifteen years ago by Taji, a licensed natural-hair practitioner with 20+ years of experience and a BFA from Parsons School of Design.
