Farm, Sheep farm in Willow Wood, OH
Tarheelbilly Farm is a small family farm in the Appalachian hills of Lawrence County, Ohio, raising registered Tunis sheep, a heritage breed, on rotationally grazed, pesticide-free pasture. It offers grass-fed and finished lamb by the half or whole, maple syrup including a habanero-infused version, seasonal honey, wool roving, yarn and raw fleeces, and wool dryer balls. Orders ship from the farm's Etsy shop, with local pickup by arrangement.
Ben Walker, a West Virginia native and U.S. Air Force airman, met North Carolina native Charis while stationed in La Grange, North Carolina. They married in 2007 and began microfarming there on half an acre. In 2013 they moved to Lawrence County, Ohio, where Ben's family had farmed, and launched Tarheelbilly Farm, named for their two heritages. Daughter Delaney helps, and the maple operation has grown from 15 taps to 600.
