About Adanne Bookshop

A Brooklyn bookshop with a curated selection of books by authors of color, alongside merchandise such as tees honoring James Baldwin, bell hooks, and Octavia Butler. The shop also runs a craft studio and hosts workshops. Titles are sold both in store and online.

Founder Darlene Okpo is a NYC native and educator who has worked for years designing and developing educational spaces. The shop's name comes from her mother's nickname, which means "her mother's daughter" in Igbo; her mother encouraged her to read from a young age. Okpo opened Adanne Bookshop in May 2021 in Brooklyn's Dumbo neighborhood as an inclusive, accessible space for readers to discover books by authors of color.
