About Adanne Bookshop

Adanne Bookshop is a Brooklyn bookstore and goods shop founded by NYC educator Darlene Okpo, named for her mother's Igbo nickname meaning "her mother's daughter." Since opening in May 2021, Adanne has built an inclusive space centered on books by authors of color, alongside apparel and gifts. The shop hosts author talks, book clubs, and community events, and runs the Adanne Craft Studio for private and group creative sessions.

Darlene Okpo spent years building educational spaces in New York City before opening Adanne Bookshop in May 2021, naming it for her mother's Igbo nickname as a tribute to the woman who encouraged her love of reading. She built the shop around books written by authors of color, aiming to create, in her words, "a vibrant and welcoming hub of knowledge, creativity, and understanding" for her Brooklyn community.
