Book store in Atlanta, GA
Village Books is an independent bookstore in Atlanta's South Downtown, founded by entrepreneur and educator Dr. Lakeysha Hallmon. Billed as "your favorite neighborhood bookstore," it curates literature by Black authors and culture shifters alongside apparel and gifts. The shop serves as a community hub for readers, hosting author events and recommendations, and continues Hallmon's Village Market and Village Retail model of Black-owned retail spaces.
Dr. Lakeysha Hallmon built her reputation in Atlanta through The Village Market, a pop-up marketplace platform for Black-owned businesses, before opening Village Books and Village Retail as permanent storefronts. A social entrepreneur and EdD, she has spent her career creating spaces, physical and digital, where Black creators, authors, and makers can reach customers directly, extending that mission to curated books, apparel, and community events on Mitchell Street.
